Is there a law that grant green card for a person who's been in the States legally for more than 10 years?

No, not that for 10 years.
Howeve, the I-485 can be filed based on residency, if the applicant has been US resident since before Jan 1st, 1972.
The applicant need to
1. secure a signed SSA-795 from the individual indicating the beginning and ending dates of all periods of residence in the U.S. The statement does not have to include the complete street address. The town and/or State is sufficient.
2. a statement which shows no absence of longer than 6 months is sufficient to determine continuous residence in the U.S. since before January 1, 1972.

Something does not sound right here. How can the employer "misplace" the upper portion of the approval notice? In the first place, why did he even separate the upper portion and the lower portion? He is supposed to give you the entire document as a single piece of paper.
Some thing really does not sound right here. By law, he is required to give you the approval notice.

Hi,
I had a somewhat similar situation, had to get my name changed on the passport to my married name. Its been 2.5 weeks since I sent everything to Indian Consulate , SF and have not received my new passport back. I have had to cancel my travel plans as well as my appointment at the new delhi consulate.
So please keep ample provision for the passport to come back when making travel plans.

GC is for the future job and hence if your prospective employer will be able to proceed with your GC in your absence till its very end then you should be fine and still be able to come into US as a GC holder when GC is offered to you. However in this case you can't do Adjustment of status since you willn't be staying inside US and hence have to opt for Consular processing if you haven't opted for Consular processing.

In my opinion, when it comes to the world of digital photography "best" is almost always classified as a "user's personal opinion" on quality, options, price etc. Not to mention when and what type of photography the camera equipment is going to be used for. I know I am clearly not making it as easy as 1,2,3...but tend to side with what the others in the forum have mentioned in previous forums. (you can do a search for previous posts.) I might add that it will also be beneficial to read and stay abreast of some of the photography publications and of course forums such as Dphoto, which now-a-days most, if not all, do a comprehensive list of tests and trials with cameras ans are frequented by many pro's.
However, I always find it amusing that the different publications seem to choose different cameras as thier "top winner"...talk about personal opinion. I recently came across a review of a camera in which the tester had the camera for nearly one year, in which he was able to give a pretty comprehensive review, while I have read other reviews in which they had the camera for a couple of days (and had two totally different reviews). Lastly, if you stay afloat of the industry and review dphoto I am confident you will be able to develop e better understanding of cameras in the current marketplace and future releases.
So, what are you projecting to use the camera for? It's alright not to know exactly, since we all change our minds, but it's a good place to start since some subject matter needs the faster shutter speeds, while others need better glass (lenses).
I hope some of the additional information I have provided you gives you a better insight about the purchase. For additional info, I did write about some of the general differences between an independent mom and pop shop and a large corporate store which can be found inthe forum.

What are my options here? Is there a way this case can be fixed and brought back on track or am I in a no-go situation? Please advise on the next steps.
You can refile the 485, if your priority date is current. However, if you filed in the crush of 485s done in Aug 2007, I suspect that your priority date is now backlogged again.
Hopefully you do have H-1B status. Otherwise, as the prior poster says, you are no longer authorized to be in the US.
I don't know if the MTR can be appealed in any way, it depends on how it was filed and why it was denied.

You cannot work on EAD...but if you apply for EAD replacement and if you received receipt, then you can work on receipt for 90 days. Hope this helps.

I don't agree with what mbawa2574 has to say,but I certainly disagree banning mbawa for expressing views. I think, mbawa2574 is well within limits of posting anything that could hurt IV image/goals. ( On this thread, I mean).
What's the damage caused to your effort?( apart from deleting threads )
I'd rather help channel his thoughts and energies in a direction that helps IV than ban him.

I'm sure you understand by now that IV is made of just you, me and bunch of other anonymous keyboard monkeys.

Just because anyone can post anything on IV website to get visibility on the homepage, its not ok to abuse the resources of the organization. We did not create IV to promote democracy or freedom of expression, there are ample of other sites to promote democracy and freedom of expression, you are free to use those resource at your liking. IV website is for a single purpose of achieving the goals we have set for the organization. You can find our goals on the website. And anything that conflicts with our goal will be removed. Its easy to use terms like democracy, freedom of expression etc to defend actions that malign the good effort put in by others. To make things clear, IV's objective is not to promote or preserve democracy/freedom of expression. We have a goal to achieve and we will not deter from our goal, whatever it takes.

Anecdote: An acquaintance of mine was married for a year and then they had marital issues. His spouse started living separately here in the US and then went back to India. The guy went to India on a trip to see his ailing father. His ex-wife's parents filed a harassment/abuse case against him and he ended up being there for 2 years. In that period his 485 was considered abandoned inspite of being in the country for more than 10 years.
I do not know the exact reasons for their marital discord, never asked and never judged.
The one thing which this country should teach is not to judge another person. No one has the right to insult/judge another human being without knowing the facts. Even if you do know the facts, you have absolutely no business to talk nonsense. Just farting out of your mouths anonymously on a public forum does not make you wise or a person of character. Shame on the low-lives who made ugly comments about OP.

- there's no current H1 stamp, although H1 extension for 3 years has been approved
- AP is expiring within 2-3 days of planned return?
- New AP is filed/pending, Receipt Notice received
- Employer is a Fortune 500
2) I've read previously that they ask you if you've changed employers since filing I-485. Anybody familiar with scenarios where employers have changed??
3) Docs I need to carry, besides... :
- H1 Approval notices?? (All of them since day 1?)
- I-485 Receipt Notice
