A# is assigned during I-140 approval process. Unless you get an approved I-140 from your employer it is difficult to get the A#. BTW, I didnt knew my A# so I just left that field blank and sent I-140 Tracking number instead.

Not true! You will have to pay $340 or whatever the fee is at the time you renew your EAD again.

As of now if u read this description from USCIS website
"If you filed a Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, on July 30, 2007, or after, then no fee is required to file a request for employment authorization on Form I-765"
Then yes forever until we get our GC, for each EAD application we will have to pay 340.
So sorry for the incorrect information.

I did online MS degree and it took 3 years, although I could have completed it in 2.5 years. First year I completed only 1 course per sem, then I started doing 2 per sem. I took non-thesis option and the total cost was aprx 15K from ISU. Thye charge flat rate fee per subject ( aprx 3 credits) irrespective of residency requirements (you can actually do this course from anywhere in the world and it would cost the same) . This degree requires 30 total credits (one of them must be a project, so technically only 9 subjects/courses to take).

That is what employers want. To hold you till you have no more juice left.
When in your prime you have given all you got for 5-8 years who cares about you after that, not the employers not the system.
It is all part of the plan. When u are on H1, you have to be 200% productive. That benefits the economy. All and sundry here know the game. So they like you to be the way you are for a long long time.
Contribute to Social security with no benefits, pay taxes, buy cars
etc and boost the economy.
After 5-8 years if you still have the energy left to wait, then sure, you stand a chance after perhaps everyone else gets a GC.

I talked to USCIS information center at (202) 272-8269. They asked me to submit Form G-639 (it is available at www.uscis.gov --> under forms section). It has all the instructions to request the copies we needed.

I have an nre repatriable demat acct thru icici - it took all of 5 mnths and over 30 calls to cust svc to get the acct opened. The acct was mainly for utilizing the indian stock opts given by employer. You can trade as an NRI but online trading is not available for US residents on nre demat accts - u can however trade thru a broker like sharekhan etc.
All dividends are credited only to your NRE savings a/c - not to regular savings a/c. Any stock sale requires an authorization number which the broker can provide. Taxes on capital gains must be paid only if you sell within a year of purchase - the percentage is the same as for Indian citizens. There is no tax on long term cap gains
Since we do not have any taxable income in India, and many NRIs make charitable contributions regularly, the tax liabilities are usually not very high
Also there is a very informative section on sify.com for NRI taxation. You are not required to file any tax returns if you are in NRI status and are within the exemption limits.

I have read Gandhi's autobiography. He clearly explains that he first tried and succeeded using his manthra of passive resistance in South Africa against appalling treatment of Indian workers. They were on 'H1B' in South Africa and were treated worse than stray dogs. Gandhi fought against that and had some success.
So the idea of passive resistance DOES work in a foreign land. We are fighting against injustice. Even H1B folks have some fundamental human rights, whether we are in a foreign country or not.

This favours temporary workers on H1, L1 etc. An H1/L1 spouse can move to the US easily, but not that of a GC holder. If you want to bring out this "discrimination", that would mean to discontinue H4 visas, as seeminlgly it is a discrimination against a GC holder. Is that you are looking for?
